John was born October 11, 1938 in Coffeyville, KS to John Lee and Dorothy
Margaret (Mahaffey) Clausing and died February 21, 2010 in Enid.  He graduated
from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville, KS.  He married Lois Christine
Cowan on June 28, 1959 at the First Christian Church in Coffeyville, KS.    In June
they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.   John graduated with a BA in
Education from Phillips University as well as receiving his MS degree in
Education from Phillips.

John taught English at Enid High School for 26 1/2 years, retiring in 1992.  He
coached cross-country and golf and was named Oklahoma Golf Coach of the
Year in 1982.  While coaching, his teams won two state golf championships.   He
was responsible for establishing the Oklahoma Golf Coaches Association and
served as their first president.  He was active in the Gaslight Theater for many
years and was in the first play presented there.  He served as the Director of EJRT
for 5 years and a baseball commissioner.  He was active in the Republican Party
and was  Garfield County State committeeman for 10 years.  John was
instrumental in helping start the After School Bowling  Program, serving as a
liaison between the school system and the bowling center.    He announced both
football and basketball games and read names at graduation during his time at
Enid High School earning him the distinction as  the “Voice of the Plainsmen”.
One of his proudest moments was winning the Pride of the Plainsmen Award.

John was so proud of his daughters and their accomplishments, but his real joy
was found in his five grandchildren.  A day never went by that he didn’t check in
with them and want to hear about their day.

Survivors include: his wife, Lois of the home, daughters: Debbie Mueller and
husband James of Enid, and Tracy Anderson and husband John of Enid;
grandchildren: Sean Zrust of Stillwater, Shannon and Shelley Mueller, Chris and
Courtney Anderson of Enid; and brother, Garry Lee Clausing and wife Karen of
Kodiak, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Clausing.

The family has established the John Clausing Memorial  Scholarship for the
benefit of a college-bound Enid High Senior Scholar Athlete.  Donations can be
made through Ladusau Evans Funeral Home.
