Funeral services for Sheryl “Sue” DeHaas Cooper will be 2 pm Saturday, May 8,
2010 at Ames Christian Church, with past minister Rev. Carl Tinnea officiating.
Burial will be in the Ames Cemetery. Family and friends will be received at the
Ames Community Wildcat Center for a luncheon at 12 noon. Arrangements are
under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Sue was born April 7, 1951 in Enid to Vyron and Ruth (McKinney) DeHaas.  She
returned to her Heavenly Father Sunday, May 2, 2010 after a brief battle with
cancer.  Sue grew up on the family farm near Ames and graduated from Ames
High School in 1969. She married Charles Ray Cooper January 16, 1971 and
they were blessed with three children, Toni, Ray, and Elizabeth.  Sue entered the
workforce after being widowed in 1977 and was a dedicated employee for Ames
Texaco, Bow Valley Resources, RainSoft of Enid, Kmart, The US Census, and
Southwest Cupid. She was a member of Ames Christian Church where she
shared her musical gift as organist and pianist for many years.  She also worked
with the youth and was choir director for a while. Her passion was music, but she
also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crocheting.  She had a tender and giving
heart for family, friends, and animals as well.

In 2000 she began employment with CCA at Diamondback Correctional Facility
in Watonga and was inspired to continue her college education, receiving her
Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 2005. She then transferred to CCA’s
Cimarron Correctional Facility in Cushing.  Her love and devotion to her career
resulted in numerous employee recognition awards throughout her 10 years at
CCA.  

Sue was preceded in death by her husband Charles, father Vyron, brother Larry,
and infant grandson Derrick. Sue is survived by her mother Ruth DeHaas of
Ames, sister Terri Meyer of Ames, daughter Toni White of Piedmont, son Ray
Cooper of Washington, DC,   daughter Elizabeth Kerl of Enid, adopted children
Heather, Rocky and Kody of the home, grandchildren Jessica, Brittani, Lauren,
Alexandria, Chloe,  TiMoune,  and Isaiah, and great-grandchildren Christopher,
David, Jaida, Sybyll, Michael, Chanceller, and Sophiann.

Memorials may be made to Ladusau-Evans for the education fund for Heather,
Kody and Rocky. Condolences may be emailed to the family at
