Ella Mae Schultz, 85, departed this earthly world on July 20, 2009 at home.

Ella Mae was born at her parents’ farm on February 12, 1924, to Fred and Ruth
Olbert, the fourth of five daughters, fondly known in the community as the “Olbert
girls”.  She grew up with her four sisters on the farm her mother and father owned
two miles west and two miles north of Midway.  Ella Mae attended the Nine Mile
District #10 rural school through the eighth grade and attended Hillsdale High
School, graduating in 1942.

After graduation from high school, Ella Mae worked at Southwestern Bell
Telephone Company in Enid, Oklahoma.  Using this training, she with her
sisters, Mary and Frances, later moved to Wichita, Kansas, working at the Wichita
Airport in Civil Service communications during World War II.  It was in Wichita
where Ella Mae began her training for a much anticipated new career.  She joined
the Cadet Nurses Corp where she attended educational classes at Sacred Heart
Nursing School and received training with the Sisters at St. Joseph Hospital.
Two and one-half years into the three year degree program, she was forced to
withdraw due to personal medical complications.  Her love of the field of
medicine continued to flow throughout her entire life.  Many families will
remember Ella Mae’s special touch for their loved ones as she continued private
duty nursing while raising her own family.

On June 30, 1946, Ella Mae married Harry Henry Schultz, her husband of sixty-
three years.  They traveled through Colorado, Illinois, and Kansas, where Harry
was the supervisor of the building of grain elevators.  They later moved back to
Garfield County, Oklahoma, to begin their farming career together near Hillsdale.
Ella Mae was a member of the Hillsdale Bible Church, and the Order of the
Eastern Star.

Ella Mae is survived by her husband, Harry, and their four children and spouses:
Tom and Jean Schultz Hollingsworth, Arkansas City, Kansas; Michael and Lark
Oswald Schultz, Kremlin, Oklahoma; Robert and Peggy Schultz Roads, Enid,
Oklahoma; and Tony and Rene Schultz Kilian, Derby, Kansas.  Ella Mae and
Harry were blessed with ten grandchildren and spouses and seventeen great-
grandchildren, lovingly waiting other additions to the Schultz family.  Ella Mae’s
sisters, Fredith Olbert Crouse, Mary Olbert Shrewsbury, and Edith Olbert Lunday
Hutchinson, and brothers-in-law, Joe Makosey and Eldon Shrewsbury also
survive her.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Frances
Olbert Wilson and her husband, Elwood, brothers- in-law Leland Crouse and
Albert Lunday, and sister-in-law, Eva Makosey.
