Obituary for Albert J. Rummel

Albert J. Rummel
A Celebration of Life Service for Albert J. Rummel age 101 of Enid will be 11:00 am Saturday, September 12, 2015, with Pastor Mark Rummel and Rev. Jim Edmison officiating at the Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Albert was born October 1, 1913 in Stromsburg, NE to Oliver and Florence Hillery Rummel and passed away Monday September 7, 2015 in Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.
Al graduated from high school in 1930 after which he worked for a photography studio, then for a grocery store for the next ten years. He began his service in the US Army in 1941 four months before WW II began and served in the Signal Corps. He was stationed in New Guinea for most of the war and then in Tokyo as a part of the service crew of General MacArthur. After his honorable discharge he worked for a drug company. During that time he went on a blind date with an Oklahoma girl who was teaching in California at the time. After two years of dating, he and Maurine Nicholson married June 20, 1948 in Pasadena, California. With the birth of two children, Kathleen and Jon, the family moved to Oklahoma and settled in Enid, where Al worked for the George E. Failing Company for thirty five years. When he and his wife retired they enjoyed travelling and visiting family until Maurine’s death in 1996. Al was recognized as a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge and was a member of American Legion Argonne Post #4. He enjoyed spending time with daughter and son, his five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. When asked on this 100th birthday what was the secret to his longevity, he replied, “Just keep breathing!”
Survivors include his son Jon and wife Debra Rummel of Broken Arrow, OK, a daughter Kathleen and husband Dan Long of Enid, grandchildren; Ryan and Emily Long, Janine and Greg Harding, Chris Rummel, Jaclyn Rummel, and Mark and Sara Rummel, and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, wife Maurine and three brothers.

Memorials may be made to American Legion Argonne Post #4 with Ladusau-
Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
