Obituary for Marvin Leroy "Pete" Hipsher

Marvin Leroy "Pete" Hipsher
A Celebration of Life for Marvin “Pete” Hipsher, 88, of Enid, will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, April 14, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church, of Enid with Rev. Randy Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at 10:00 am, Friday, April 15, 2016 at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 PM on Wednesday, April 13, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

He was born October 2, 1927 in Cleo Springs, Ok to Herman E. Hipsher and Mary Olive (Nash) Hipsher, and passed away April 10, 2016. He graduated from Cleo Springs High School in 1945 then attended what was Oklahoma A & M at the time, and now is known as OSU. He transferred to Phillips University to play baseball. He joined the United States Army in 1946, and served his country during WWII. After his military service, Marvin came back to Cleo Springs and was appointed to the United States Postal Service as a Rural Carrier. Marvin married Shirley Shafer on August 25, 1951 at the Methodist Church in Fairview, Oklahoma. They had two daughters, Nanci Lynne and Carrie Sue. Like his father before him, Marvin was the Rural Letter Carrier and was also a partner in Glover Oil with his brother-in-law, Ted Glover. We lovingly refer to those years as the “baseball era” as “Pete” played ball and later managed the semi-pro team, “The Cleo Springs Merchants”, as well as managing the ball diamond. He was the Sunday School Superintendent at Cleo Springs United Methodist Church. He married Alice Fay Mitchell on December 29, 1972 in Cleo Springs. They made their home there until Pete retired from the postal service in the early eighties, after which they moved to Enid. Pete and Alice enjoyed traveling the world together, visiting Indonesia, Bali, Hawaii, and places all over the United States.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Cecil Hipsher and Wayne Hipsher; two sisters, Helen Glover, and Maxine VanArsdale; and a step-son, Carey Lasiter.

Pete is survived by his wife Alice, of the home in Enid; two daughters, Nanci Byrne and husband Peter, of Arvada, CO; Carrie Anderson and husband Kelly, of Grapevine, TX; three step-daughters, Pam Newton and husband Carl, of Enid; Vicki Anthony and husband Rocky, of Aline, OK; Michelle Lasiter of Enid; step-son Scott Lasiter and wife Jill, of Midwest City; one brother, Glen Hipsher and wife Sherry, of Jenks, OK; four grandchildren; Ryan Coyne and wife Brittnee, and Trevor Coyne, all of CO; Jordan Anderson and wife Alison, and Lacey Anderson, all of KS; fourteen step- grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews as well as other family and friends.

Memorial contributions in Pete’s name may be made to Valir Hospice with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

Condolences may be made and the services viewed online at www.ladusauevans.com.
