Obituary for Edwardene Bullard (Westfahl)

Edwardene Bullard (Westfahl)
A Celebration of Life for Edwardene “Eddie” Bullard, age 96, of Enid, is 10:00 am, Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Enid, with Reverend Susan Southall officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm in Roselawn Cemetery, Okeene, Oklahoma. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Eddie was born in Okeene on August 22, 1919 to Edward and Cara (Thurman) Westfahl. Eddie passed away peacefully at The Commons, on Monday, May 23, 2016, surrounded by her family.

Eddie graduated from Okeene High School in 1937 and moved with her parents to N.E. Oklahoma. She attended Northeastern Junior College, Miami, Oklahoma and later earned her Bachelor and Master’s degrees from Southwestern University, Weatherford, Oklahoma. She taught Elementary school at Okeene for 15 years and was the High School Librarian. Prior to 1975, before kindergarten became mandatory in public schools, Eddie taught kindergarten aged children out of her home. She finished her last years of teaching in Enid, teaching the Gifted and Talented classes. In 1948, she married Lawrence Gorman and proudly helped raise his four children. After Lawrence’s death, she was single for several years, and in 1981 Eddie met and married John Bullard. They made their home in Hennessey and moved to Enid in 1998. Eddie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Enid, Retired Teachers , Kappa Kappa Iota, served as President of the Okeene Alumni Association in 1978, and FUMC Women’s Group. She was an avid golfer and belonged to the Hennessey C.C. Ladies Golf Association, serving as president for two years. She also belonged to the Meadowlake Golf for Ladies.

Eddie was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Gorman, two sons, John Paul Gorman and Robert J. (Bob) Gorman, and grandchild, Lori Tunnell. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, John Bullard, of the home in Enid; two daughters, Marilyn White, of Wheeling, WV; Judy Bell and husband Dr. Robert (Bob) Bell, of Portland, OR; three step-children, Phyllis Crosswhite and husband Kenny, of Enid; Cindy Hair and husband Steve, of Seguine, TX; and Suzanne Hershberger of Garber; twenty grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

Memorials in Eddie’s name may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Enid with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

John and Eddie’s family would like to thank the entire staff at The Commons Healthcare Community for their loving care of Eddie over the last four years. They also want to extend their appreciation to Hospice Circle of Love.
