Obituary for Gwendolyn M. Evans (Goodwin)

Gwendolyn Marie Evans, age 80, was welcomed to Heaven by her Savior on December 22, 2016 at the Golden Oaks Village, where she and her husband Jerry have resided since 2012. The family invites you to an informal service to gather and remember Gwen, to take place at Golden Oaks Village Chapel, 5801 North Oakwood Road, Enid, on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 1:00 pm, with Reverend Gary Lillie officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Born July 18, 1936, in Elk City, Oklahoma to Warren and Mabel Goodwin, Gwen was a loving sister, wife, mother and living personification of an angel on earth to many with whom she came into contact through her career as a Registered Nurse for over forty years, thirty of those at St Mary’s Hospital in Enid. She provided love and care to those who were dying and a fluffy pillow and a smile along with much knowledge of her profession to those she helped regain health.

Gwen attended School of Nursing at Enid General Hospital, graduating in 1958. In that same year, she married the love of her life, Jerry Dale Evans. Their son, Jerry Mark was born August 31, 1962, at Forbes Air Force Base Hospital in Topeka, KS, where her husband was stationed in the Air Force.

Gwen never sat still long, being involved with many hobbies, such as needle work, working in her yard, puzzles, and entertaining. She was a born story teller, and always the bright spot of any room she entered. She was comforted throughout her life by her faith in God and witnessed to others of His love and salvation.

She loved Enid and its people, never considering residing anywhere else.

Her last years were lived fighting a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Her family would like to extend many thanks to the Angels at Golden Oaks Village and Hillcrest Hospital in Cushing, who guided them through the tough times with care and love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Mabel Goodwin, her sister, Melba Sue Kamphaus, brother in law, Bill Evans, father and mother in law, R.J. and Marie Evans, and nephew Dennis Goodwin.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry, her son, Mark Evans of Tulsa, OK as well as her “special son” Tom Peterson, also of Tulsa, OK; brother and sister in law, Clifford and Daisy Goodwin of Weatherford, OK; brother in law, Hubert Kamphaus of Foss, Oklahoma, as well as nieces and nephews that she loved as her own.

Memorials in Gwen’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
