Obituary for Virginia Idell Hermes (Masters)

Mass of Christian Burial for V. Idell Hermes, 99, of Enid, will be Thursday, May 4, 2017, 10:30 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Aaron Foshee as celebrant. The interment will follow on Friday at 2PM at the Larned Cemetery, Larned, Kansas with Father Warren Stecklein as celebrant. Idell was born April 6, 1918 the youngest child of John Henry and Nancy Caroline Masters in Sedgewickville, MO and passed away May 1, 2017.

She graduated from College High School and Steimle Business College, both in Cape Girardeau, MO. She worked in the State Agriculture Department in Jefferson City, MO for four years, then was secretary to a State Representative before marrying Normal N. Hermes on March 2, 1946 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Jefferson City.

Once married, they moved to Kansas and lived in several places before settling in Enid, OK in 1975. She worked as a cashier at St. Mary’s Hospital for 15 years, retiring in 1990.

She is survived by one daughter, Carma, of Austin, TX and three nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985, her parents, five sisters and one brother.

She enjoyed delivering Meals On Wheels, bowling and playing cards. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church and the Altar Society.
