Norman A. Lamb is in Glory. He is standing amazed in the presence of Jesus. At a young age Norman realized his imperfection and the need for a perfect Redeemer and accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Our Heavenly Father called Norman home January 5, 2018. As he took his last breath and before time could pass he was in God’s presence and he viewed the nail pierced hands. Enid directly to heaven, he wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

His family was from western Oklahoma. The Lamb roots stretch from Roger Mills to Grady Counties. Norman was born in Canute on February 27, 1935 to Norma Henderson Lamb and George Lamb. He was educated at Cordell grade school, Emerson Junior High (Enid) and Enid High School. He was class president and the starting quarterback for the Enid High Plainsmen where he later coached and taught school. His life changed when he was offered a football scholarship to attend Cameron State Agricultural College in Lawton. He later earned his undergraduate degree and law degree from the University of Oklahoma.

Norman was busy from the start of his career. He began ROTC, then Army active duty and reserve, retiring with the rank of colonel. He served as a county attorney in Chickasha, city attorney in Oklahoma City, chief prosecutor for Garfield County. Norman A. Lamb served as state Senator for several counties in NW Oklahoma. During his legislative and public service career, Norman worked closely with more than six governors. He was appointed and served as Secretary of Veterans Affairs for Governors Frank Keating and Brad Henry. Norman was voted “most popular senator” amongst his colleagues. He served as a recruiter for West Point. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Officiating Hall of Fame.

All his busyness came to a screeching halt when as he put it, “I fell in love with the ‘Blonde Bomber!’” He married the love of his life, Belva M. Lamb, and their adventure began. Belva helped Norman A. campaign and Norman helped Belva at decades of twirling contests and events. No one could outwork Norman and Belva in anything. Over the years they loved hosting Sunday school parties in their home, travelling to new places, playing cards with friends and raising a family. Norman is survived by his bride Belva Lamb, daughter Kim and Gene Akers, daughter Fawn Lamb, son Todd and Monica Lamb, grandchildren Blake Ingmire, Kalli Turnbow (husband Brandon), Aly Akers, Griffin Lamb and Lauren Lamb, great- grandchildren London, Kit and Millie.

Norman served on so many boards and committees the list is too long to include here. He was a football coach, school teacher, football official, Sunday school teacher, soldier, attorney, legislator, cabinet secretary and church deacon. He loved people and loved to encourage people. “Norman A.” as many friends called him had many titles throughout his life, but his favorites were those of “honey”, “dad” and “papa”. His family loved him and he adored them all.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, January 11 in Enid at Emmanuel Baptist under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
