A Celebration of Life for Melvin Lee Warkentin, age 89, of Enid, is 10:00 am, Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Emmanuel Enid with Pastor Wade Burleson officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Melvin was born June 23, 1929 in Orland, California to Bernhard and Marie (Penner) Warkentin and passed away Friday, October 26, 2018 in Enid.
Melvin pastored churches in Kansas, South Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas. In 1977 he and his wife Helen purchased Enid Christian Bookstore and worked together until his retirement in 1993. He and Helen enjoyed traveling and spent winters in Arizona for a number of years. He was a member of Emmanuel Enid and the Sojourners Community Group.
Survivors include his son Steve Warkentin and wife Lori; daughter Rita Janzen and husband Steve; three grandchildren, Andrew Janzen and wife Lynsey; Sarah Quinn and husband Adam; Benjamin Warkentin; four great-grandchildren, Eli, Owen, Sadie and Atlas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernhard and Marie Warkentin; wife Helen Warkentin; four brothers; and a granddaughter, Hannah Janzen.
Memorials in Melvin’s name may be made to Tabor College Scholarship Fund and the Assembly of God World Missions c/o Adam and Sarah Quinn with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
