A Celebration of Life for Carrie Lou Holt, age 89, of Enid, is 11:00 am, Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Westside Church of God in Christ under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Elder Wilbert Kearney will officiate, and burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, November 2, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Carrie Lou (Rich) Holt was born on March 20, 1929 to John and Laura Rich. She was the “baby” of the 11 children. She attended Booker T. Washington High School. Carrie married Carlos Dale Holt on August 22, 1949, in Enid, Oklahoma. Carlos and Carrie had a total of seven children; Jean Robinson, Judy Hunter, Dale Holt, Stephen Holt, Phyllis Holt, Karen Holt and John Holt.

Carrie was employed at Enid State School for 26 years where she retired at the age of 55. Carrie accepted Christ and was filled with the Holy Ghost under the late Bishop J.L. Young of Lawton, Oklahoma. She was a member under Bishop Young’s leadership for 2 years before moving back to Enid.

Carrie Holt was a member of First Church of God in Christ, Macedonia Church of God in Christ then later became a member of Westside Church of God in Christ. Carrie was appointed to the Mother’s Board and was also a licensed Missionary. Mother Holt worked in every auxiliary department within the Church of God in Christ.

Prior to losing her sight, Mother Carrie enjoyed many hobbies that included gardening, quilting, crocheting, sewing, traveling and playing the organ. She also loved spending quality time with her grandchildren. Mother Holt’s grandchildren will tell you that she valued and believed in God’s word and she was willing to invest in her grandchildren by praying for them, providing them with a word from the Lord and a testimony about what God could and would do for you if you lived right. She taught all of her kids and grandkids how to love and play fairly with one another. She also instilled a good work ethic into all of her children. Mother Carrie knew that hard work was one way that you could get ahead in life.

Her favorite Scripture was Psalms 118:24 “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it”. She would always recite this scripture with enthusiasm and zeal.

Mother Carrie Holt was preceded in death by all of her siblings: Pearline Atkins, Mary Ann Willis, Florence Jeffers, Essie Milan, Jeffrey Rich, Leroy Rich, Dempsey Parker, Marie Rich, John Rich, and Estelle Christopher. Mother Carrie also preceded these loved ones in death as well as Carlos Holt, her husband; her sons, Dale Holt and John Holt; and her grandsons, Corey Holt and Aaron Holt. Mother Carrie Holt leaves to be mourned by her living children, Jean Robinson, Enid, Oklahoma; Judy Hunter and husband Delbert, of Wichita, Kansas; Stephen Holt and wife Carolyn, of San Antonio, Texas; Phyllis Holt, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Karen Holt, of Enid, Oklahoma; Evelyn Holt (daughter-in-law), of Enid, Oklahoma; and Janet Holt, (daughter-in-law), of Tampa, Florida.
