Condolence: James and our dad, Curtis grew up in Hillsdale and played basketball together. Dad reminisced of those days with his team-mates with such happiness, telling of their win-loss records with pride. I had the pleasure of meeting your family a few years ago at the Honor Flight ceremony when your dad was part of this special tribute to our veterans. So many of his family members were there to honor James that evening. We pray for comfort and peace in the wonderful memories you share of him.

Condolence From: Rob Jessup
Condolence: I had the privilege to get to know James when he and my father, Bob Jessup made a lot of cattle deals in the 1980s and early 90s before Bob passed in 1993. Being the son of a cattle buyer I got to meet several farmers and cattlemen across the state. Coming to Hillsdale on a business transaction has always been my favorite because of the loving warmth that James and Norma Jean expressed to me over the years. James was one of the few good friends Bob had on a personal level. They shared a kindred spirit. And to get to experience Norma Jeans cooking after weighing cattle trucks was a double blessing! James and Bob can once again be at a cattle auction together at that heavenly auction barn! Thank you James for the blessed memories and the legacy you have left!

Condolence From: Melinda Bowen
Condolence: A beautifully written obituary for a life well lived by a beautiful person. His devotion to living a life of worship and fellowship with the living God is evident to those who had the privilege of their lives mingling or interweaving with James.
It is with heartfelt sympathy in recognition of the loss of your Dad,Grandfather.
Life is full of wonderful and strange emotions. The transitions in life of losing the ones we love and have invested life in is unfamiliar and unwelcomed. As you navigate the loss of your Dad/Grandfather may the living God be your guide.
May memories of him bring you a smile and may God provide you with comfort through this time of loss.
Lovingly, Greg and Melinda Bowen

Condolence From:
Condolence: Our Dad and James have had a special friendship from the beginning and through their many stages and adventures in life. Of the many stories we heard over the years, Dad was just sharing on Saturday the story when James found him marching in formation at boot camp. James smiled and said to Dad "Don't do anything!" and then James started to march alongside him for some time, in silence of course. Side by side, their silence certainly speaking volumes to each other. It's the little things that can mean the most. Dad was honored to have James stand up with him as his best man and always enjoyed their many visits over the years.

On behalf of our Dad, Paul Messenger, we'd like to share these photos from their HS Basketball years at Hillsdale. These young and ornery boys turned into some outstanding men. Until the day when they're all reunited playing basketball together again on what I image are the finest courts of gold.

We send our thoughts and prayers to the whole family. ~ Paul Messenger and children David, Paula, Sondra & Janet
