Ida Mae Washam, age 96, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2019 in Enid, Oklahoma.
She was born January 5, 1923 to Robert and Jessie Dupus in Aline, Oklahoma and attended Aline High School, graduating along with her sister, Roberta, in 1942. After high school she worked as a housekeeper and moved to Lawton and later, Enid. There she met Audry “Pat” Murphree and they were married on April 26, 1945 in Enid. They had two daughters and remained married until Pat’s death in 1968.

Ida Mae worked for Enid Public Schools for over 30 years and after her retirement remained active in the Retired Teachers Association. She frequented the Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, and Parents without Partners groups -- and she adored dances. That’s how she met John Washam and they eventually married on June 21, 1989, in Las Vegas.

She loved to cook and took every opportunity to bake something. She perfected the flaky pie crust and golden meringue peaks. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and enjoyed many years planning, volunteering and attending events at the Moose Lodge. She loved her family very much and was always concerned about them all, whether they called her “mother,” “grandma,” or “Auntie Mae.”

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Audry “Pat” and John, parents, two sisters, Roberta Huffman and Frances Mollett, and two half-brothers Wayne Robinson and Chester Dupus. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Smith of Enid, OK and Audrey (Stan) Whitson of Summerville, SC, one granddaughter, Shannon (Jordan) Sipes of Oklahoma City and one great-grandson.
