A celebration of life for Ernest Leierer, 97, of Enid, will be 2:00p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Willow Road Christian Church with Rev Carrell Still officiating. Burial will follow in the Enid Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Ernest Dewey Leierer was born June 6, 1922 in Raton, New Mexico to Dewey and Cora Leierer and passed away August 8, 2019 in Enid, Oklahoma. Ernest grew up in the Enid area and graduated from Enid High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942 serving into 1944 in England and France during World War II. He was ranked as a Corporal Clerk Typist. Following his time in the war he moved back to Enid where he began dating and later marrying Waunita Baltimore on September 6, 1946. Ernest later worked his way through seminary at Philips University and was in ministry for 27 years; he served in Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.
After retirement Ernest and Waunita settled down in Enid where they continued being involved in Church. Ernest enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
In 2015 Ernest and his son Dennis attended an Oklahoma Honor Flight to Washington D.C. where the group toured the World War II, Korea, Vietnam War Memorials, and other sights in the area. This trip reminded him of his military service and created a deeper appreciation for his time in the war.
Ernest is survived by his two children, Sharon Salois and husband Ray of Greenville, TX and Dennis Leierer of Wichita, KS; his sister, Betty Dundas of Wichita, KS; four grandchildren, April Houle and husband Billy, David Leierer, Ronald Sommers, and Angie Hart; eight great-grandchildren, Corey, Amber, Justin, Travis, Dillan, Daurian, Blake, and Madison; eight great-great grandchildren, Lyla, Rue, Aurora, Witten, Kydien, Rayina, Brooklyn, and Lincoln.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Waunita Leierer; parents, Dewey and Cora Leierer; his son, Ronald Leierer; three brothers, Everett, Melvin, and James; two sisters, Helen and Doriene; and grandson, Timothy Sommers.
