Peggy and I were second cousins and basketball foes from junior high through high school. She was a formidable forward for Ames in the "glory days" of six-on-six basketball. Her height, talent and competitive edge were key to the success of the Ames girls throughout those years. I was privileged to get to know her better as we were teammates on the 1970 West All State Basketball team. Her competitiveness, team spirit, strong personality and great sense of humor endeared her to everyone.
Although we did not stay in touch in the following years, our paths did cross from time to time at basketball games in the area. Peggy had kids and grandkids excelling on the court from several communities, and she was there to support them. What a basketball legacy she left!
I was sad to learn of her battle with cancer, but I have the sense that she approached that challenge with the strength, grace, and humor that made her a star on and off the court.
Please know that I send my sincere condolences to the family for your tremendous loss. May your many good memories bring you peace and comfort.
