Obituary for Opal Irene Barnett (Gentry)

A Celebration of Life service for Opal Irene “Butch” Barnett age 88 will be 11:00 am Friday, December 13, 2019 at Liberty Southern Baptist Church with Rev. Matt Miles officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

She was born March 31, 1931 Wynnewood, OK to Joe D. and Ada Shelton Gentry and transitioned from Earth to Heaven at her home surrounded by family on December 9, 2019. Opal was only five years old when Clifford E. Barnett, her future husband, saw her swinging on a vine over a creek and nicknamed her “Butch”. Upon Clifford’s return from Pearl Harbor, where he served in WW II, he and Opal married on February 7, 1947 and spent 52 amazing years together. They would be blessed with a son Clifford E. Barnett Jr., and a daughter, Glynes Via Barnett. Butch showed an outward love for Christ by raising her family in church and teaching children in Sunday School. She always had a kind and generous heart. Opal loved her family and she worked tirelessly to ensure they always had a loving home, dinner on the table, and a secure future. Her four grandchildren would stay with her throughout the summertime, and she spoiled them rotten. Butch enjoyed bowling and was a league bowler until the age of 85. She especially enjoyed bowling with her great granddaughters Abigail and Isabelle. She lived a full and wonderful life!

Butch is survived by her son Clifford E. Barnett Jr. and wife Paula, daughter Glynes V. Gibson and husband Robert, and four grandchildren: Chad Barnett, Derek Barnett, Kari Anne Gibson-Horton and husband Curtis Horton, and Melinda Clark and husband Jeff Clark, five great grandchildren: Christopher Jackson and wife Jessica, Cody Jackson and wife Sarah, Abigail Barnett, Isabelle Barnett, and Katelyn Clark, sister Gladys Rogers.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clifford and a brother Joe D. Gentry.
Butch will be remembered as a bright shining light in this world, a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
Memorials may be made to OMRF-Heart Division with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
