A Celebration of Life Service for Clarence James “C.J.” Rogers age 79 of Afton, OK formerly of Enid will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev. Jim Edmison officiating, with burial to follow in Enid Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
C. J. was born in Enid, Oklahoma to Elizabeth and Dick Rogers on June 26, 1940 and passed away on June 5, 2020 in Tulsa, OK. He grew up on a farm in the Hunter, Ok area where he graduated from high school. While he was in school was active in FFA, concert and marching band activities. His favorite instrument was the clarinet. C. J. graduated from Phillips University, Bachelor of Arts, and Colorado State University, Master of Arts, in music. He later received his public-school administrative degree.
C.J. married Janice Kay Herbert, August 13, 1961. C.J. and Janice were married nearly 60 years. While residing in Enid for the first 25 years their children Jill and Jay were born. C. J. was the band director in several Oklahoma schools-Jefferson, Pond Creek, North Enid, and principal at Carrier and Okarche. Upon retirement in Okarche he joined his wife Janice teaching in the Department of Defense schools in Heidelberg AFB, Germany and Lakenheath AFB, England. While overseas they had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and Asia. When they returned to the US, they made their home at Grand Lake, Oklahoma where C.J. served as superintendent at Ketchum schools.
Wanting to spend time with their grandchildren they decided to move to Gaithersburg, Maryland where C.J taught in Silver Springs High School and other area schools. Another move for C.J. and Janice, to keep up with their grandkids, took them to Raleigh, N.C.
While living in Enid he was active in the Elks Lodge and Lions Club of N. Enid. He was president of the Garfield County Education Association and also Teacher of the Year at North Enid schools.
C.J. enjoyed water sports and lake living most of his life. He will always be remembered for his slalom skiing skills and his love of the deer at their Grand Lake home.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; daughter, Jill Rogers Russell and her husband Richard, and their children Cade and Riley Kay of Raleigh, NC; and son Jay Rogers and his wife Theresa of Tulsa. He will be missed dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kirby.
Memorials may be made to OMRF-Alzheimer Division with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

Condolences and prayers to the Rogers Family. Mr. Rogers, as I must still refer to him, had a way of instruction that made you want to work to improve musical skills and always enjoyed how good he was at the playing the Clarinet. God bless you all.

I am so sorry to know of CJ's passing and want you to know he and you, Janice ,and all your family will be in my prayers. I enjoyed talking with him so much about many things and how he loved his family and all that you did together. I will remember him as a great friend, neighbor and a man who shared many good stories about his life and family. He will be missed by all here in Raleigh.
Be strong in your faith and love for each other during this healing process.

Janice and CJ were our neighbors in North Carolina for nearly 10 years, and the neighborhood isn’t the same without them since their return to Oklahoma on a full-time basis. CJ was outside every day engaged in conversations with one neighbor or another about current events or about his teaching days – of which he many. He no doubt touched many lives throughout his career. Our condolences and prayers go out to the entire family. Tom and Beth Achterberg
