A Private Family Celebration of Life service for Mary N. Donaldson, age 94, of Enid will be 2:00 pm Monday, August 17, 2020, at the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wade Burleson officiating. Burial will follow in the Waukomis Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Mary went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 12, 2020. The family has requested that if you want to attend the service that you have a mask on.
Mary, along with her twin brother Ted, was born April 30, 1926; to Zeddie Melton and Jessie Jones in Drumright, OK in her aunts’ home. Her dad Zed worked in the oilfield as a pipefitter and they moved from one job to another in various towns. She said she went to 11 different schools in her 12 years of schooling. She came from a large, loving family and her favorite thing was when all the extended family got together for holidays and gatherings. She graduated from Waukomis High School in 1944 and met her future husband, Glen Goodwin, her senior year. They were married in July 1944 and they were blessed with three children; Kenny, Ginger, and Kelly. In 1955 they moved to Wakita to farm land and raise the children. Many wonderful memories were made in that country home. Mary worked at Guthrie Drug Store in Wakita which the kids enjoyed. She was a devoted mother, wife, and homemaker and was also a wonderful cook. In 1962, the family moved to Enid and Mary went to work at Central National Bank, where she worked for the next 30 years. She cherished the longtime friendships she made with her coworkers. During that time, she obtained her real estate license and studied to fly the family airplane. She married Jake Donaldson in 1983 and they traveled, gardened together and had many years of devoted life together until he passed away. Her children have said that their mom was never known to raise her voice to anyone including them, and was a friend to anyone she met. She was an angel on earth and loved all her family unconditionally, and never complained about anything. Mary was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Enid.
Mary is survived by her children, Kenny and Judy Goodwin of OKC; Ginger Engler and her husband Bob of Waukomis; Kelly and Cindy Goodwin of Enid; grandchildren; Tammy Neal, Julie McMahon, Nick Goodwin, Katie Barker, and Austin Miles, and several great grandchildren, step children; Cynthia Rowland, Candace Zaslaw, Suzanne Hunter, Sara Abbott, sister Judy Thomason and twin brother Ted Melton and wife Carol.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jacqueline Melton, brother Jerry Melton, grandson Jeremy Becker and step grandson Robby Zaslaw.

Dear Kenny, Ginger and Kelly and families,
It doesn't matter what your age is it's so hard to lose you Mom. I was so sorry to hear about Mary Neal. We all loved her so much. We got to visit a lot at Aunt Jessie's. She was always so positive and had a happy spirit and such a joy to be around. I am planning on watching the service online and I would give anything if I could be there. We will be thinking of all of you and keeping you in our prayers.

As we remember Grandma Mary and celebrate her incredible life, I would like to share just a few words about this incredible woman.
I remember one of the first times I met her, as we had attended Church over on 20th and Elm and then we met for food at Bob’s Cone Corner. From the instance I met her to the time she married my grandfather, she immediately loved me as if I were her own biological descendent. At the time that I met her, I had a huge void in my life, as I had lost my grandmother just a couple years prior to cancer. Grandma Mary more than made up for this incredible void, in ways that only she could have done. I read where it was wrote in her obituary that she was one to never raise her voice, and I second that for sure, AND, I am certain that at some point during our time together that I likely challenged to change the course of her not being one to raise her voice, yet she did not.
At a time of remembrance of Grandma Mary and her beautiful life, it takes me way back down memory lane (one of my most fond memories of her and times with her) to a time that she was the one that took me home from the funeral of a young friend of mine, from when I was just about 10 years old. We rode home to Enid from Meno in her sleek green car with a white vinyl top (I remember it possible be a Pontiac Grand Prix, maybe a 1975 model). No she did not do any donuts with that powerful rear-wheel drive car, but she caringly drove me directly to Pizza Hut and we shared a Supreme pizza together, as she knew this was one of my favorites, as she continued to comfort me, as only the most compassionate and loving of all grandmothers could do. The impression she left on me this one particular day has resonated with me for a lifetime, and even to this day! She was quite the impressionistic example to me. This exact impression was nothing shy of LOVE, and one I will never forget.
Another beautiful thing about the arrival of Grandma Mary in my life was the opportunity to meet, gain, and embrace new cousins, Jeremy and Tammy, Nicholas and Julie, and Grandma’s children Ginger, Kenny, and Kelly. I also remember Grandma’s mother Jessie, and how sweet she was, in addition to Granma’s grandkids, children and mother, I also remember her loving siblings and their families. The constant and intentional theme among them all was Love!
Grandma Mary was one that always welcomed me and also anyone with me into her home and always offered to fill me up with great cooking and goodies, before I was ever to depart. She made incredible banana cake and pig cake and anything else that was made with her hands. I always looked forward to these times, and she never disappointed. She was as incredible sweet as the many delicious deserts of which she created and served.
She was a faithful attender to the events that I had ongoing at school, and I knew I could always look up to see her at my events. She always had sweet words of encouragement that were absolutely extensions of her unmatched example of Love. She was an incredible example to me in more ways than imaginable!
Grandma Mary was also a beautiful lady that had incredible style. She seemed to always be dressed diplomatically impressive. She was the epitome of class, both in the ways she presented her physical self and also in the way she chose to respond or simply not to do so. Her character was beautiful. Her persona was beautiful. Her example in all ways was beautiful. Her love was beautiful. Her love for Jesus was also beautiful. Grandma Mary was beautiful, and I am so extremely blessed to have been called her grandson!
Many years ago, I read something that has stuck with me, in times like these, when referring to rare people like Grandma Mary, as they pass this world and take up residence in Heaven, which she no doubt earned her place, and it refers to the fact that people whom are the greatest examples of love present in our lives………..and that is that as they pass this world, they will always remain a part of our lives, as will she. For Love is our greatest Legacy one can leave behind, and the Love of which they showed us and exhibited to us by their own examples that they leave behind, is their true legacy, as in the case of Grandma Mary! For her love and the love, she showed us will no doubt remain with us, live on with us, and always be an integral part of us.
If I were to sum up Grandma Mary and the life she lived in just one word, it would be Love, as she was LOVE!
While her illness saddened me deeply and it was hard for me to experience, I am thankful she is now in peace and dancing with Jesus! It was hard to hear the news of her passing, but I thank God that He let me be a part of this most beautiful woman’s loving life!
I look forward to one day getting to tell Julia about her Great-Grandmother, Grandma Mary.
