Obituary for Maryl Lyn Meier (Meier)

A Celebration of Life for Maryl Lyn Meier, 68, will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Carrell Still officiating. Burial will follow in Waukomis Cemetery. Maryl was born to Ralph and Lillian Meier on January 30, 1952 in Enid, Oklahoma. She was a resident of Enid State School until May 1963 when she moved home to be with her loving family, June 1971. While there, she attended the Enid Opportunity School until it closed. She became the very first client at 4-R Kids when it opened in March 2009 where she loved to go to be among friends and have a “job”, although she liked to claim that she was “the schoolteacher”. No doubt had things been differently in Maryl’s life, she probably would have been a “schoolteacher”. Due to declining health issues over the last year, she took up residence at Garland Road Nursing Home until her death Saturday, December 19, 2020.

Maryl loved the simple pleasures in life, a smile and handshake from a stranger, visits from family and friends, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Santa, the Easter Bunny, her collection of coffee cups, reruns of Wheel of Fortune and Lassie movies. She loved to play Rook and Bingo and especially loved “to win” every game, which she did most often with a little help. She loved to ride the train at Silver Dollar City over and over again. She loved attention and never knew a stranger. Everyone was her “friend” as far as she was concerned. She loved to color coordinate her clothes, from head to toe and had a color for every day of the week. We could never sneak the wrong color in, she knew full well what color day it was. She loved to eat at cafeterias and had her favorite places to shop; J. C. Penney, K-Mart and “her” Evans Drug Store. She loved to listen to her old vinyl records and watch movies, especially anything relating to Christmas. She loved to color Easter eggs, and looked forward to the new doll that Santa brought her every year. She loved to answer and talk on the phone, preferably on the old landline phones, and had her own on standby. There were so many other things that Maryl loved in her 68 years of life and that was the essence of Mary. She “loved”. With all her heart, she loved and never had an unkind word to or about anyone…ever. Her sweet, gentle, simple spirit was certainly something to be admired and almost envious about. Especially in a world today filled with so much hate and cruelty. Her mind was incapable of a lot of things, but it was also incapable of being jaded by the world and its ways.

Of all the things she loved, she loved Jesus most of all. That was undeniable. We are rejoicing with her in knowing she is spending this Christmas with Him. Although we will miss her sweet spirit and smile, we take comfort in knowing that one day we will see her again in Heaven whole, healthy and perfect.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents and her stepfather, L.L. Smith. She is survived by her mother, Lillian Smith, Enid, her father and stepmother, Ralph and Lora Meier, Enid. Also, her brothers, Martin, of Wichita, KS; Matt and wife, Sheryl, of Enid; and Mark and LaDonna, of Enid. She also leaves 7 nephews; Brett, Kyle, Jeff, Doug, Andy, Branden, and Jared Meier.

Memorials in Maryl’s name may be made to 4-R Kids, Enid with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
