Obituary

A Celebration of Life Service for Wilma W. Brewer, age 93, of Enid will be 11:00 am Friday, January 29, 2021 at the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Pastor Norris Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden Chapel of Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. The family has asked due to COVID that everyone wear a mask and social distance.
Wilma was born May 22,1927 in Denver, CO to Chester and Justina (Gilmer) Ward and passed away January 24, 2021 in the Greenbrier Nursing Home where she has resided for the past 2 years due to her Alzheimer’s. Wilma was raised by her loving grandparents in Guthrie, OK. She attended school in Guthrie and graduated from Favor High School. Wilma accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a young age at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Guthrie and started playing the piano for the church. Music was her heart and she was a faithful believer. Attending church was very important to her. She married Clason Nolen in 1945 and to this union a son, Clayton, was born in 1947 in Portland, Oregon. In 1948, the family moved to Enid. Later, she married Luther Brewer in 1955 in St. John’s Baptist Church in Ponca City. After Luther was ordained as a minister, he became the pastor at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hennessy from 1972-1991 and Wilma was the pianist. Luther and Wilma co-owned Brewer’s Nursery and Landscaping. When Luther retired from the business, Wilma decided to be a Door Greeter at Walmart, working for 20 years, retiring in 2014. Luther passed away on November 6, 1996. She was an active member of Grayson Missionary Baptist Church, serving as their pianist, directing Grayson’s male choir, and working with the Women’s Mission. Wilma loved to travel with her family to try new restaurants, but she had one requirement, she had to be home before dark. Upon her death she was the oldest member of Grayson Missionary Baptist Church. Wilma leaves behind her son, Clayton Nolen and wife Varna of Enid, two grandsons, Quincy Nolen of Enid and Bryce Nolen and wife Mariel of Oklahoma City, two great grandchildren, Leah and Bryce II, her cousins Hazel Kimsey, Janet Underwood, and Fenton Gilmer. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Miller and sister Virginia Ward. Memorials may be made to Grayson Missionary Baptist Church or OMRF-Alzheimer division with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
Condolences may be made online and the service may be viewed online atwww.ladusauevans.com .

Clayton and Varna, Gaverne and I were blessed to know your Mother. With Her constantly refreshing warm and inviting smile, she greeted Walmart shoppers with pleasant interactions, setting the tone for their pleasant shopping experience. As she put people at ease, she dispensed directions and kindness.

In the community, she encouraged us to be spiritually engaged in the church and in life.
She shared her noble and abiding faith in Christ by her quiet spirit and shining lifestyle combined with polite, spiritual & cultured conversation.

True light is rare in these times. We are BLESSED to have witnessed Ms. Wilma’s bright light for Christ.
Psalm 116:15 reminds us...Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.

With Heartfelt Prayers, Joy, and Encouragement,
Darryl & Gaverne Scott, & family

Mother Brewer was a really sweet Saint of the Most High God. She would always greet you with a smile and encouraging word. The thing that I will remember most is the Love that she showed for her son Eric better known as Mr. Nolen. May the Lord keep the Family during this time of Bereavement.

You were special to me. God gave me a Bonus Mom after my mom left and I am so thankful you were in my life. You loved me so in unconditionally that I will never forget you. We never had cross words, you were just supportive weather I was right or wrong. You physically helped me move to Dallas in January even though you didn't think I should. You let me stay in your bedroom so I would comfortable because of your hospitality and cook breakfast when I would get up. So a friend and confidant. I loved the way you LOVED me. I will miss you FOREVER!!!
