Obituary

James Robert Cotton died February 11, 2021, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 81. James was born October 14, 1939, to Orange Houston Cotton and Irene (Schwieger) Cotton in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

James graduated from Northeast High School in 1957.

James and Glenda McCracken were married, March 12, 1966, in Crescent, Oklahoma. Together they had 2 children, Robin Cotton White, (Kevin) and Robert Houston Cotton. He also had a chosen family, Andrew, Ellie, James and Ariel Haywood, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

James was a member of I.B.E.W for over 50 years and worked on electrical projects across the state, as well as in Texas, Kansas, and Arkansas for numerous electrical contractors, retiring in 2001.

James was also an avid antique fan collector and member of the Antique Fan Collectors Assoc., attending many “fanfests” and “fanfares” in several states. He loved nothing better than strolling thru the antique malls looking for that special fan, always knowing what year they were made and who made them.

He also loved cars; Corvettes, 64 Chevys, 57’s and even had a race car. He loved airplanes, being able to identify each kind as they flew overhead. He and his son took flying lessons together. He was also a big Sooners fan.

James was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Richard, Doris, Mary, and Martha; brothers-in-law Jack Gilbert, Bill Mitchell, Alan Johnson, Bill Vinyard, and John Garrison; nephew Michael, and sister-in-law, Laqueta Garrison.

James and Glenda attend Hennessey Church of Christ, Hennessey, Ok, where a Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 6, 2021 with Allen Tillman officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home, Enid, Oklahoma.
The family requests that all in attendance please wear a mask.

Glenda, my sister, Carol, called to tell me about your husband. I am so sorry for your loss. Although it has been many, many years since I have seen you, I always remember the good times we had working in the drugstore together and I feel a sadness for your loss. Know that you and your family are in our hearts and prayers. Bless you. Marilyn Oltmanns Talley

Uncle George (James) was extra special to me, as he and my dad were so alike in so many ways. He was fun, kind, car lover, big smiler and a great talker. He will be missed. Much love to Aunt Glenda, Robin, Robert and all the family. I hope he is sitting with my dad and Daniel, swapping stories and laughing.

So sorry Glenda and family I will always remember George (James) for the first time I met him after Dickie and I were married, I told Dickie he sure was a sweet and kind person . When we were out there we had breakfast with him and he took us sight seeing. I pray God will comfort you and your family now and in the days ahead. God Bless .
