Obituary for Donald Wayne Walker
Celebration of Life Service for Donald Wayne Walker, age 85, of Enid will be Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11:00 am at World Harvest Church with Rev Brad Mendenhall officiating. Visitation for family and friends is Friday, April 9, 2021 from 7-8 pm at the funeral home. Cremation and service arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Donald Wayne Walker was born December 4, 1935 in Houston, Texas and entered into Heaven on Tuesday, April 6th, 2021, at his home in Enid.
Don’s father moved the family to Enid from Houston when Don was a very young boy in order to find a more arid climate. Don grew up in Enid and attended Enid Schools.
During his young adult years, Donald love racing boats on Salt Plains Lake and Lake Overholser Lake where he earned much recognition and won many trophies. He also was a very proficient Trap Shooter and won many awards as well. When it came to shooting shotguns, Don was definitely a pro!
Donald married Wanda Wilson on September 12, 1963 in Enid, and celebrated 58 years of marriage. Don met Wanda at the Vance Drive-in at the corner of Van Buren & Owen K. Garriott where Donald thought she was looking at him, and he decided to go over and ask her out. Come to find out, she was looking at the guys next to him, whom she had just sold a room full of furniture to that day at the furniture store she worked at. After the initial greeting and conversation, they saw each other every day after that until they were married.
Donald faced a health challenge in his high school days as he dealt with bone cancer in is leg. Later on, after being married to Wanda, he ended up breaking his leg on a snow skiing trip. Due to the effects of the bone cancer from his earlier days, his leg would not heal properly. Doctors were left with no other option but to amputate his leg, when Wanda insisted on taking him to a Kenneth E. Hagin meeting in Tulsa and having him prayed for. At the end of the meeting, Donald did get prayed for, and by the next day, Don’s leg was totally healed! He walked on that leg without any issues until the time of his passing. Don loved telling people about the healing of his leg and how God could work in anyone’s life.
Don had pretty much been in the sales business most of his life. From Automobiles to Mobile Homes, to eventually, Recreational Vehicles. He opened Walker Winnebago in 1972, which he operated until it’s closing in 2002. Don couldn’t sit still for very long, so he continued to sell RVs on a small consignment lot on north Van Buren for the last several years. Don made many friends through the RV business as he was always so willing to help people out. Don was a legend in the RV Industry knowing many manufacturers and owners personally.
Don was a man on the go and seemed to be larger than life. You would find him many times at the Little Sahara Sands Dunes in the winter time and at Lake Tenkiller in the summer times. He made many trips to the Tampa, Florida area to visit friends, and to enjoy Disney World.
Don was known for his quick whit, one liners & for his deep philosophical wisdom that he would always be willing to offer to anyone, whether they were willing to hear it or not. Sayings like, “What you hold in, the devil will hold over you.” and “I’ve got a photographic memory, but the film has expired.” where some of his favorite.
Don always had a passion for those who were suffering. He was a volunteer Chaplain for many years for both St. Mary’s Hospital & Integris Bass Hospital where he prayed for a countless number of people, and always believed for God’s power to touch their lives. He was called upon many times to work critical situations. He was active in church activities, and enjoyed sharing the Love and power of God with all whom he encountered. He was very active in Full Gospel Business Men’s in the 1980s & 1990s and loved sharing his testimony. He was an ordained minister and baptized and married many. He touched many lives for the Kingdom of God, and many credit Don with them surrendering their life to the Lord.
Donald is survived by his wife, Wanda; Sister, Verna Joy Cummings of Birmingham, Alabama; sister Jerry Bellar of Enid, OK; and brother Ronnie Walker of Enid, OK. Children, Pam & Mike Tomberlin of Florence, Alabama; Mike & Denita Day of Enid, OK; Brent & Jenny Walker of St. Petersburg, FL; Penny & Terry Lewis of Claremore, OK; Donnie & Charlene Walker of Tulsa, OK; Daron & Vicky Walker of Rockwall, TX; and Tamy & Brad Mendenhall of Enid, OK. Plus 30 Grandchildren, and 27 Great Grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by parents, V. E. & Myrtle Walker; 2 Brothers, Ken & Larry Walker, and Sister, Connie Harris; Grandson, Brandon Gammon; and Great Granddaughter, Kacyn Brooksher.
