Obituary for Ruby Lee Barney (Valentine)

A Celebration of Life for Ruby Lee Barney, age 93, of Enid, will be 2:00 pm, Monday, January 10, 2022 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Dale Cummins and Lyle Buller officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 9th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
Ruby was born to Roy and Pansey (Bailey) Valentine in Taloga, Oklahoma on May 4, 1928, and passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at her home in Enid.
This is part of the story of the life of our mother, Ruby Barney. She met her husband, Jack Barney, at Roy Pucket’s Gas Station in Enid, and they were married 6 months later. One year later, son Gary was born. The family moved to Taloga around 1968 to be in partnership with Ruby’s sister, Fay and her husband Cecil. They were there for two years, then moved to Goltry in 1970. Ruby worked at the telephone office until getting pregnant with Gary, after that she stayed home because at the time, the phone company didn’t have a place for expectant mothers. In 1976, Jack passed away suddenly at the age of 47, leaving Ruby the sole caregiver of their two sons, Gary and Darrell. Ruby worked 2 or 3 jobs most of her life; one as a nurse’s aide at Integris Bass Hospital. She cared for patients for 27 years, giving them back rubs and foot rubs, which is unheard of these days. Ruby worked until age 65, then began taking care of Grandma Pansey, until grandma fell and broke her hip. Ruby’s most important gift in life was her family. She never met a stranger and her smile was infectious. She lived her life for the Lord on a daily basis; she was the toughest lady we ever knew, but the Lord helped her every day. There is no doubt she is in Heaven with her beloved Jack, and all who went before her, sitting on Jesus’ lap.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Barney; parents, Roy and Pansey Valentine; three sisters, Twila and Hazel Valentine; Faye Hicks. She is survived by two sons, Gary Barney, of Enid; Darrell Barney and wife Susan, of Enid; two sisters, Jewel Young, of Taloga, and Chris Douglas, of Edmond, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, as well as a host of other family and friends.
Memorial contributions in Ruby’s name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
