Obituary for Erlinda Lumangtad Matres (Lumangtad)

Services celebrating the life of Erlinda Matres, 74, will be held 10:00am, Saturday May 21, 2022 in Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Alan Seibel officiating. Burial will follow in Oklahoma City’s Rose Hill Burial Park. Services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Erlinda was born on June 10, 1947 in Delores, Ormoc City, Leyte, Philippines to Polito and Paulina (Cale) Matres. She went to her heavenly home on May 14, 2022.
Erlinda immigrated to the United States in 1976 and settled in Enid, Oklahoma in 1983. She retired from Wal-Mart in 2008, after 25 years of service where she was a very loyal and hard worker. Working at Wal-mart allowed her to meet many people, young and old, as well as many Filipinos, who came to know her as “Ate Linda” or “Mama Linda”.
Her favorite pastimes included gardening, growing beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables. She loved to cook and feed anyone who came by to visit her, even if you weren’t hungry (ha!).
Over the years, Erlinda helped many people and often opened her home for those needing a place to stay. In her spare time, she would visit and assist elderly. She also enjoyed the mission fields in the Philippines, fundraising and bringing food and clothing to those in need, and ministering to young children.
Erlinda was a servant of the Lord, diligent about prayer, reading her bible daily, and attending sermons with notepad in hand. She was a 30+ year member of Oakwood Christian Church and was continuously striving to bring people closer to her Lord and Savior. She carried an extra Bible with her at all times, ready share the word.
Erlinda is survived by her daughters, Yvonne Clark and husband Goose, Sharon Dugger and husband Alen; grandchildren, Hayden (13), Lovi (3), Chloe (1); and a host of cousins and loving friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Norberto Matres.
To her friends and family, she was one to call and talk to about anything and everything. She was readily available to offer an ear, advice, support, and prayer. She was a classy woman, loving mother and grandmother, and cherished friend to many.
