Obituary for Roy "Fig" Newton

A Celebration of Life for Roy “Fig” Newton, 76, of Enid, will be 10:00 am, Friday, July 29, 2022 at Central Christian Church with Rev. Valerie Driscoll officiating. Entombment with full military honors provided by the United States Air Force Honors Team will follow in the Mausoleum at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 28th from 7:00-9:00 pm at the funeral home.
Fig was born July 3, 1946 in Adrian, Michigan to Ray and Ruth (Poucher) Newton, and passed away Sunday, July 24, 2022 in Oklahoma City.
Fig spent 21 years in the United States Air Force, during which time he served his country in the Vietnam War. Later in his tenure with the Air Force, he traveled the country teaching and discovered how much he loved it. He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant in 1986. Fig went on to obtain a Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychology at OSU and a Masters Degree in Education from NWOSU. Fig took great pleasure in being a member of AMBUCS and as a volunteer coach for the Enid High School Football and Baseball programs. In recent years, Fig has been active in the Air Force Association and the Vance Development Authority. Fig was a very proud member of Central Christian Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Drum) Newton; two sisters, Rosaland Coyffer and Ruth Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Jana Harvey, of Enid; two children, daughter, Kelly Neath and husband Mark, of Olathe, KS, and their children, Tanner and Delaney; son Chad Newton and wife Kelly, of Olathe, KS, and their children, Angeline and Giovanni; three God-children, Kristen Yehle, Lindsay Dally and husband Ross, and Robyn Irby and husband Tim and their children, Caitlyn, Garrett, and Lauren Dally and Camden and Bella Irby. He also leaves three bonus-children, Kristel Esparza and husband Herman, of San Antonio, TX; Heather Jennings and husband Matthew, of Cedarburg, WI; Brandon Harvey and wife Tiffany, of Enid; nine bonus-grandchildren, Monica, Emily, Lauren, and Nathaniel Esparza, Clyde and Audrey Jennings, Jersey Garrett, and James and Rayford Harvey; two brothers, Ray Newton and wife Victoria, of Chelsea, MI; Roger Newton of Ft. Collins, CO.
Memorial contributions in Fig’s name may be made to Central Christian Church or the Wounded Warrior Project or any Veteran’s Organization of choice with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
