Obituary for Norma Ruth Bengtson (Norman)

Funeral services for Norma will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 22, 2023, in the Memorial Park Garden Chapel with Rev. David Reber, Jr. officiating. Services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.

Norma Bengtson passed away peacefully at Penrose Main Hospital, Colorado Springs, CO in the care of Pikes Peak Hospice. Norma was 92 and lived a long and happy life. Norma was born in Douglas, OK on October 23, 1930, to John Guy and Charity Olive (Garrison) Norman. She married Jack Carl Bengtson at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Enid OK on October 31, 1952. Together with her husband they traveled the world and raised their family in Texas, Washington, Louisiana, Libya, Mozambique, Denmark, Kuwait, England, Oklahoma City and then retired in Colorado Springs, CO. Norma grew up in Enid, OK and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church School. She graduated from Enid High School in 1949. Before marrying Jack, she worked at Bell's Jewelry Store and as a telephone switchboard operator.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, daughter, Claudia Bengtson, her parents, three brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by her son Frank Bengtson and wife Lisa of Houston, TX, daughter Karen Douglas and husband Don of Colorado Springs, CO, Granddaughter Audrey Partridge and husband Preston of Colorado Springs, CO, Grandson Graham Douglas of Raleigh, NC, Grandson Ian Douglas and wife Kirstie of Virginia Beach, VA, and six great-granchildren.

Norma was intelligent and finished the Soduku every morning to keep her mind sharp. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, and tatting. She had a green thumb and loved to be in the garden. She and her husband Jack loved Colorado and enjoyed fishing together. She will be missed by her family.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church or Lutheran Family Services with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodian of the funds.
