A Funeral Service for Edith Ann (Roberts) Darnell, age 90, of Edmond, formerly of Enid, will be 2:00 pm, Friday, May 9, 2025, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in Enid Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.
Edith was born on June 21, 1934, at St. Mary's Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma, to Cecil Leroy Roberts and Glendeen June (Conway) Roberts. She peacefully met Jesus and loved ones gone before her on May 3, 2025, at 8:50 p.m. at the home of her daughter Vicki and George Adkins in the company of her family.
Edith married Don Elden Hopkins on May 11, 1951, in Enid, Oklahoma and became an Air force wife for twenty years, traveling the country and world. Born of this marriage were seven children.
Edith returned to live in Enid where she was master seamstress for customers far and wide. She was known to have reduced a size 10 wedding dress to a size 3! She was also the bookkeeper for DBC Pipeline until she retired.
Edith had many talents. She was a great cook, which she attributed to her namesake and grandmother, Grace Edith Moran Conway McIntoch. She beautifully played piano. She had a wonderful alto voice and sang with the Sweet Adelines. She was an impressive card shark playing with the three other ladies every Monday. She could put together large jigsaw puzzles in a matter of hours. She could eat a bag of Chester's cheddar popcorn in one setting. Her most favorite thing to do was cheer for her favorite team, the OKC Thunder. She loved all the players, but mostly #5 LuDort and #6 Jaylin Williams (J-Will) whom she called 'Happy.'
Edith met David Darnell through the website Christian Mingle and on October 8, 2017, they were married. Together, they enjoyed traveling, getting to know each other's families and going to church.
Edith's life revolved around her family and friends. She was loved by all who knew her. She was a good friend to many. She always had a smile and a hug for whoever needed it. She had faith that could move mountains. Above all, she loved Jesus and her family.
Edith is survived by four daughters, Vicki (George Adkins) of Edmond, Ronda (Glenn Lee) of Edmond, Jan Snapp of Enid and Carol Roades of Mannford; brother, Bruce Roberts (Norma) of Enid; and aunt, Billie Foster of Enid as well as fourteen grandchildren and thirty-two great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents, Cecil and Glendeen Roberts; daughters Elizabeth Ann and SondraKay and son Richard Glen; brothers Keith Roberts and Dennis Roberts; and husband, David.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mercy Health Foundation or American Cancer Society, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory serving as custodians of the funds.
