Funeral services for Helen Virginia Smith, 84, of Waukomis, will be 10:00 am, Monday, August 25, 2025, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tommy Donaldson officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise Cemetery, Breckenridge, Oklahoma. Visitation with family and viewing will be from 4-6 pm on Sunday, August 24th. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.

Helen was born September 2, 1940, in Waukomis, Oklahoma to Bretisley R. Karban and Marie Odehnal, and passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2025, in Oklahoma City.

Helen grew up in the Pioneer community. She was born, raised and lived her adult life on the family farm in Waukomis, Oklahoma. Richard and Helen met on a blind date in 1960, and later married on September 31, 1961, and were married 63 years. She received her Bachelor's degree in Special Education from Oklahoma State University, and later earned her Master's degree. She began her teaching career in Ripley, Oklahoma where she taught elementary school. She and Richard moved back to the family farm in Waukomis, and she continued teaching at Enid Public Schools where she later became Principal of several elementary schools. Helen retired in 2006 after 30 years and was then able to spend more time in the Pioneer community, and with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed planting flowers, painting barn quilts, crossword puzzles and helping the community as a member of the Pioneer Wheathearts.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, B. R. and Marie Karban, husband Richard Dee Smith, two sisters, Anna Frances White and Martha Randolph, one brother, Joe W. Karban. She is survived by two children, Theron Smith and wife Meredith, of Plano, TX, and Cindy Smith, of Plano, TX, three grandchildren, Makenna Ast and husband Brenden, of Frisco, TX, Tyler Stuckey and Oliver Richard Smith, both of Plano, TX. Three sisters, Rosemary Moore, Vi Dietrich, and Kay Turner, all survive her, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.

Memorial contributions in Helen's name may be made to the Pioneer Wheathearts Scholarship Fund with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
