Colleen

Joyce Colleen Bland Flikeid, a woman who never met a stranger and could famously strike up a conversation with a fence post, passed away on March 26, 2026, at the age of 89. Known for her unfiltered honesty and vibrant spirit, Colleen lived a life defined by hard work, "treasured" finds, and a fierce love for animals.

Born on February 17, 1937, on a farm southeast of Ames to Loren and Opal (Mason) Bland, Colleen was a daughter of the Oklahoma plains. Aside from a brief stint in Buffalo, she was raised and educated in Ames, graduating from Ames High School in 1955.

Driven and independent, Colleen headed to Enid immediately after graduation to begin her career. Her professional journey was marked by longevity and loyalty; her early career was with Stanford Strunkle Drugstore and Gritz Jewelry. She spent 30 years working for Drs. George and Hope Ross. She later served at First National Bank and as the Practice Manager for Dr. David Matousek and Dr. Richard Hromas until her retirement.

In 1986, Colleen met the love of her life, Douglas Flikeid. They were married on October 16, 1991, and shared a beautiful life together until his passing. Through their union, Colleen gained and cherished two daughters, Christine and Kendra, whom she loved as her own.

Colleen had a keen eye for potential. She loved scouring estate sales for "treasures," particularly old trunks which she would painstakingly and beautifully restore. She was a lifelong learner, enjoying classes at Life Long Learning and serving as a past member of the Symphony Auxiliary. In the kitchen, she was an accomplished cook, and she was rarely without a good book in her hand.

However, her greatest passion was her love of animals, particularly dogs. A staunch advocate for adoption over purchase, Colleen's home and heart were always open to pets in need. We know she was greeted at the Rainbow Bridge by her loved ones and many, many special pets who went before her.

Colleen always said exactly what was on her mind-whether you wanted to hear it or not. That very authenticity is the legacy she leaves behind for her large and loving family.

Colleen is survived by two daughters, Christine (Mike) Heath, and Kendra (Brian) Pinkley; sister Pat Harris; grandchildren, Aaron & Lourdes Heath, Mason & Kirby Heath, Haley & Justin Palatini, Savannah & Nick Hoffsommer, and Sawyer & Aaron Beagle; ten great-grandchildren, with two more joyfully expected soon; and a niece and nephew, Wallisa (Mark) Stearman and Neil (Traci) Harris.

She was preceded in death by, her husband Douglas Flikeid; parents Loren and Opal Bland, sister Earleen Alley; nephew Aaron Alley; brothers in law, Toby Alley and Bill Harris.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the nursing staff at The Commons Assisted Living who helped keep Colleen comfortable right up until the end, and to Hospice Circle of Love for their compassionate care.

Per Colleen's request, there will be no service. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Colleen would be delighted for memorials to be made to the Enid SPCA or an animal rescue of your choice.
