Mary Evelyn Adams

A Celebration of Life service for Mary Evelyn Adams, age 94 of Enid will be 10:00 am Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Devon Krause officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mary Evelyn was born in Maud, OK on February 20, 1932, to Elmer and Mildred (Dixon) Adams and passed away early Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at her home. She had a degree from Oklahoma College of Women, and two Masters Degrees, one from Oklahoma State University and one from Tulane University. With graduate work from Colorado University, Syracuse University, Stanford University, Oregon College of Education, Kansas University, and Phillips University. Much of this graduate work was done on scholarship: many were grants from the National Science Foundation. She held a valid up-to-date PROFESSIONAL Oklahoma Teaching certificate with teaching experience at Woodward and Bartlesville before coming to Enid in 1956. She was a mathematics instructor at Enid High School for 38 years, including 30 years as Head of the Mathematic Department and 18 as Supervisor of Mathematics in Enid Public Schools. She was a member of Enid Education Association, Oklahoma Education Association, National Education Association, Oklahoma Council of Teachers of Mathematics, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics and past president of EEA, past vice-president of OCTM and NOPEA and holds a retired membership in many of these. She was selected as Enid's Teacher of The Year in 1966. In 1985, the Oklahoma-Arkansas Section of Mathematical Association of American honored her for her excellence in teaching mathematics. In 1987, she was appointed by Governor Bellmon (thru the efforts of Senator Norman Lamb) as a member of the Board of Trustees of The State Teachers' Retirement system of Oklahoma and in 1990 was appointed to the same board for the 2nd 4-year term. As an active member of First United Methodist Church, she was at one time on the panel of teachers for the former Friendship Sunday School Class and served many terms as President of the SS Class. In 2021, she was given Special Mission Recognition by Enid First UMW. At the time of her death, she was serving on the Finance Committee of FUMC. In 1969, she received her private pilot license. In her younger years, she did extensive travel in the US and parts of Canada and has done some travel in those areas since her retirement in 1995. Since her retirement, she has become a Master Gardener and volunteered in the garden at Adventure Quest and Dillingham Gardens and helped with Enid Lights up the Plains. She is a past member of the Board of Enid Beautiful. She received her 73-year certificate from the Maud Eastern Star Chapter in 2022. She and her father both received the EHS Alumni Association by having a room at EHS dedicated to her. She was active member of Garfield County Retired Educators and Garfield County Master Gardeners.

Survivors include a niece Maridale Still and husband Randy, great nephew, Brandan, his wife Jena, and their two sons, Joseph and Jonathon, great niece Kristen and her husband Drew, their son Roman and daughter Evie, great niece Kimberly and husband Zach. A very special friend Vicki Jeffery.

She was preceded by her parents, and brother Harold Adams and wife Paula.

Memorials may be made to Frist United Methodist Church, Enid with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodians of the funds.
