A graveside service for Mildred Marie Estes will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2026 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, Oklahoma, with Reverend Jim Edmison officiating. Service arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.
Mildred, lovingly known as "Midge," passed peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly family on May 26, 2026, at the age of 87. She was born on January 27, 1939, in Chelsea, Oklahoma, to L.C. Hughes and Evelyn Parker Hughes.
A proud Chelsea native, Midge graduated from Chelsea High School with the Class of 1957. Soon after graduation, she moved to Coffeyville, Kansas, where she began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. It was there that she met the love of her life, Donnie Estes a tall, lanky basketball player who quickly captured her heart. The couple married on August 22, 1958, beginning a devoted partnership that would span many cherished years.
Together, Midge and Don built a beautiful life centered around faith, family, and love. They first made their home in Blackwell, Oklahoma, where they welcomed their daughters, Lisa Dawn and Stephanie Lynn. In 1961, the family settled in Enid, Oklahoma, where their youngest daughter, Amy Leah, completed their family.
Midge dedicated many years of service as a medical assistant in several physicians' offices before retiring from Dr. Williams' OB/GYN practice. She was admired for her compassion, gentle spirit, and genuine care for others. Whether caring for patients, supporting friends, or loving her family, Midge made everyone around her feel valued and special. She was also famously known for her incredible brownies, which became a treasured family favorite.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures - traveling, camping, fishing, boating, and spending time at the lake with those she loved most. She especially enjoyed trips to the casino and was one of the proudest supporters on the sidelines, never missing an opportunity to watch her grandchildren play baseball and softball. Her family was truly the center of her world, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her endless pride and happiness.
Midge was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don Estes; her father, L.C. Hughes; her mother, Evelyn Parker Hughes Harrell; her younger brother, Darrell; and her brother, Bobby Hughes.
In one of her final and most cherished adventures, she spent six unforgettable weeks in Arizona living life exactly the way she loved. She lit up every casino she walked into, trying her luck from Arizona to Las Vegas and Laughlin, often leaving with winnings in hand and a smile on her face. She shopped until she dropped, ate every meal with joy, and filled each day with laughter, love, and memories alongside her grandchildren. She was happiest surrounded by family, soaking up every moment, every adventure, and every bit of fun the desert had to offer. Those weeks became a beautiful chapter of joy that her family will treasure forever
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her daughters, Lisa Lea and husband Keith, Stephanie Wildrix and husband Dale, and Amy Broyles and husband Keith; her grandchildren, Heather Boler, Tyler Lea and wife Haley, Lindsey Jones and husband Garry, and Lacey Nunnally husband Cody, Dalton Broyles and fiancé Dalet Molina, and Paige Broyles; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Ashlan, Tayler, Paetyn, Jaxon, Leyton, Knox, and Londyn.
She is also survived by her brothers, Kenny Hughes and wife Pauline, Ronnie Hughes and wife Martha; sisters-in-law Beverly Hughes and Beverly Juhnke, step-sister Laquita Huls and husband Jim of Chelsea; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
She will be remembered for her unwavering strength, generous heart, unconditional love, and the warmth she brought into every room. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored and the countless lives she touched. She was deeply loved and will be missed beyond words.
