A Celebration of Life service for Monte L. McHendry, age 75, of Fairmont, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev. Timothy Dorsch officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Fairmont. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Monte was born December 27, 1950, in Ft. Polk, Louisiana, to Ira and Marsha Stotts McHendry, and passed away April 24, 2026, at OU Medical Center.
He attended grade school at Zion Lutheran School and graduated from Garber High School in 1969. Monte proudly served his country in the National Guard and Army Reserves, working as a Drill Sergeant for 20 years before retiring.
Monte began his career with UPS on January 1, 1972, in Ponca City as a semi-truck driver. He later transferred to the Enid location, where he continued his work for a total of 34½ years before retiring in 2004.
He was united in marriage to Coleene McDaniel, and later married Barbara Brobst on June 11, 2004, at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairmont, Oklahoma.
Monte is survived by his wife, Barbara; his son, James McHendry & partner Josef; his sister, Mara Jo (Darryl) Kimmell; his brothers, Mark McHendry and Rockie (Dixie) McHendry; his stepchildren, Alyssa Midwinter and partner Tammy Schultz, Kera (Derek) Redenius, Jason Shumate, and Brian (Christina) Clark; and his grandchildren, Ethan, Kamryn, Kacie, Soren, Alexander, Madison, Brayden, Cayden, and Savannah. He is also survived by his two nieces, Stacy Ann and Malisa, and four nephews, Sam, Tony, Kass, and Trevor.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran School, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
