Nancy Linda Sue Russell, 78, passed away on August 1, 2026, in Kiowa, Kansas. She was born on January 18th, 1948, at home in Beaver County. Linda was a beloved mother, nana, great-nana, sister, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Linda was the eleventh child of twelve children. Growing up in Shattuck, Linda never missed an opportunity to tell anyone about "those Shattuck Indians!" Linda had many stories about growing up on the Schultz Ranch, on which her daddy worked, & felt she and her siblings had the best childhood because of it. The family moved to Cherokee when Linda was a sophomore where she then attended Cherokee High School. That is where she met and then married Delmar Corr in January 1966. To their union four daughters were born, Samatha, Tabatha, Tamara, and Shanndee Corr. Linda would tell you she was young and thought she didn't need to finish high school, dropping out the spring semester of her senior year, to get married. She later obtained her GED and an associate degree in dietary management from the University of Florida. She valued education and instilled that in her children & grandkids always encouraging them through their endeavors, stating "you are never too old to learn!".
Linda often let it be known that her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest blessings! That included her sons-in-law & granddaughter-in-laws.
Linda had a servant's heart and worked in many places when the girls were young to ensure they had the best clothes & all their needs were met. And if you knew Linda Sue, you knew her kids were the best dressed and always clean. She even went as far as ironing their play clothes. Linda worked at Achenbach Learning Center in Hardtner, Kansas, in the 80's, the Carmen Nursing home in the early 90's, and then on to Share Medical Center & Nursing Home until she retired. She was the dietary manager at all three places where she lovingly developed dietary care plans for each individual resident. Linda loved making each resident feel at home, ensuring they had special meals & food they often cooked or enjoyed in their own homes. Known as one to not sit, retirement was short lived. Linda then started doing private care and took care of several people in their homes providing love, companionship, and her famous home cooked meals & sweets.
Linda was well known for her work ethic, home cooking, such as angel food cakes, hot rolls, deviled eggs, & her delicious cinnamon rolls. But above all, Linda was best known by her family for her love, devotion and that her grandchildren could do nothing wrong! She loved going to their school & sporting events. She was loud & proud and everyone knew it!
Linda never missed a beat when it came to telling you exactly what was on her mind. She was strong-willed, honest, and never afraid to tell her truth. She was incredibly creative, with a special gift for seeing beauty in the ordinary and turning almost anything into something beautiful. Above all, she was someone her family and friends could count on, always willing to lend a helping hand whenever someone needed her.
Linda is survived by her four daughters, Samatha (Bill) Shrum, Tabatha (Troy) Campbell, Tamara (Larry) Hoyle, and Shanndee (Jerry) Wessels; ten grandchildren: Caleb (Emily) Shrum, Taylor (Shannon) Shrum, Hayden (Rhonda) Campbell, Connor Campbell, Brittany, Bailey, Shelby & Ethan Ashcraft, Lindzee & Kolt Wessels; seven great-grandchildren: Cooper, Chase & Carter Shrum, Barrett Shrum, Kiowa Campbell, Kaisley Snow & Luella Ashcraft; her sister, Carolyn Bond; sisters-n-law Doris Russell, Janet Russell, and Phyllis Caulkins; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Minnie Bertha (Taylor) Russell; siblings: Albert Russell, Milford Russell, Samuel Russell, George Carol Russell, Dovie Slovacek, Helen Batman, Doris June Russell, Minnie Batman, Cotey Horn, and Johnny Lyn Russell.
Her voice, creativity, strength, and generous spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Riverside Church of Christ in Burlington, OK on August 22, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Service and Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.
