Doyle Thompson

A Celebration of Life for Doyle Thompson will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Hunter United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in White Cemetery. The family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 5pm-6pm at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Doyle was born March 13, 1938 in Oklahoma City, and passed away March 20, 2021. Doyle was adopted by Madeleine and Keith Thompson at one month old. He was fortunate to be raised by a loving couple. The family lived in town until Doyle was 11 and then moved to the family farm. He attended all 12 years at Hunter and graduated with the class of ‘56. Doyle played basketball and baseball (he was a good left- handed pitcher).

Doyle graduated from OSU in 1960, with a degree in agriculture. Doyle went back to Hunter to pursue his love for farming.

In 1960, he enlisted in the 45th Infantry National Guard. He took his basic training at Ft. Leonard, MO., Artillery training at Ft Sill, OK, and officers training at Ft. Polk, LA. He served as Captain for the 45th National Guard unit at Tonkawa. Doyle retired in 1971. In the summer of 1971, he met the love of his life Anita Burdge. They were married January 22, 1973 at First Baptist Church, Hooker, OK. Doyle and Anita are the 3rd generation to live on the Thompson farm. The couple were blessed with 2 wonderful children Melissa and Mark.

Doyle was a member of the Hunter United Methodist Church. He served many offices at the church.

Doyle served on the Soil Conservation committee for 20 years and Pond Creek - Hunter School Board for 19 years. His whole life he worked hard and if a neighbor needed help, he was there.

His enjoyment is watching OSU football, basketball, wrestling, and baseball. He was a faithful Cowboy fan.

Doyle enjoyed his grandchildren Jett, Danaë, Gabe, Addison and great granddaughter Ellie.

He is survived by his wife, Anita Thompson; children, Melissa Thompson, Mark Thompson and wife Kim; grandchildren; great- grandchild; sister, Marilyn Stringfellow; sister-in-law, Carolyn Fischer; and many beloved relatives.

Memorial donations can be made to Hunter United Methodist Church or White Cemetery with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodian of the funds.
