Verl Brainard

July 9, 1955 — December 16, 2025

Funeral services for Verl J Brainard, 70, will be at 2pm, Monday December 22, 2025 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Enid, OK. Pastor Rains will officiate. Cremation has been provided by Ladusau Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.

Verl was born on July 9, 1955 to Harold and June Brainard in Enid, OK and passed away peacefully at his home on December 16, 2025. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church west of Enid. He was a lifelong member of Trinity until it closed in 2019. He served as an elder at Trinity and was a consistent attendee of the Saturday night service created just for him and other farmers who had cows to milk on a Sunday morning.

Verl graduated from Carrier High School in 1973. Realizing his passion for agriculture early in life, he began operating the family dairy during his senior year. He served as President of the Oklahoma Young Farmers Association in 1986. This position allowed him to travel all over the United States speaking at conventions, making memories and meeting new friends along the way.

In 1990, he saw his childhood dream come true when he bought a dairy farm north of Enid and operated it as VJB Dairy. He spent the next 15 years milking cows, maintaining a beef cattle operation, growing row crops, and raising kids. He instilled in his kids a strong work ethic, teaching them that chores are simply a part of life and reminding them to find some fun while getting them done.

After selling the Holsteins, Verl transformed the dairy barn into a sawmill. He continued the beef cattle operations and spent time tending to his fruit tree orchard, winery and bee colony. His favorite place to be was outside tending to the land or the animals.

In 2011, Verl met Lynn James. They fit perfectly, sharing laughs, big adventures and a mutual talent for taking care of each other. They were married in 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church. With Lynn, Verl discovered a bigger world, one filled with travel, exploration and treasured winters spent in South Padre Island.

If you were lucky enough to spend time with Verl, you most likely laughed while listening to his stories and enjoying drinks. We will miss his infectious laugh and his contagious smile.

Verl is survived by his wife, Lynn; his mother, June; his kids, Angela and Chuck Jackson, Katie and Jesse McCants, Jacie Brainard and Matt LeCrone, Taylor and Darci Brainard, Walker Brainard, Brandon Parks, Gregory and Amanda Parks, and Patrick and Natalie Parks; 24 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; his friend Levi Lockhart; his siblings, Dena and Joe Felton, Diana and Phil Henderson, Virun Brainard, and Dona and Willard Johnson; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Harold, nephew Joshua Johnson, and step-father Ed Callaway.

Memorial donations may be made to RSVP of Enid, 602 South Van Buren, Enid, OK 73701.
