Virginia Matthews

A Memorial Service for Virginia A. Matthews, age 79, of Enid, will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Central Christian Church with Pastor Ronnie Hopkins officiating, burial to follow in Enid Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.

Virginia was born in Enid to Ashton and Helen (Hatch) Matthews on July 2, 1945, and passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025, at her home in Enid.

She grew up and attended Enid Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1963. Following graduation, she attended Phillips University, graduating in 1967 with a Bachelor's of Science degree. She earned her Master of Education in 1983 from Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She moved to Denver, Colorado where she worked for Jefferson County Public Schools, and taught elementary school for 32 years before retiring in 1999. Virginia moved back to Enid in October 2015 to be closer to her family.

She is survived by a brother, Lloyd Matthews and wife Angela, of Norman, sister, Joyce Matthews of Enid; two nieces, Heather and Lacey, and four nephews, Wade, Christopher, Luke and Gabriel, as well as eleven great-nieces and great-nephews, numerous cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Johnny Matthews.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Complete OK Hospice for the excellent care provided to Virginia, and especially to Jacinda West, her neighbor, who also took excellent care of Virginia, providing her with friendship and companionship whenever needed.

Memorial contributions in Virginia's name may be made to The American Heart Association or the charity of choice with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
