The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Joseph Makosey can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Joe and my dad Olaf (Steve) Stephens

I remember as a young boy going to Joe's Shop at Washington and south of Garriott at the alley, my dad Steve an Joe was transferred to Amarillo AAF1d, Amarillo, Tex on 27 July 1945, they both came to Enid to become Pilots at the Army Air Corp, but the War ended and they never got their wings. Joe and my dad became good friends, my dad worked for Longbell Lumber Co. in Enid, and then joined the Police Dept. in the early 1950s. I remember going to Joe's shop and staring at the big poster of Custer's Last Stand, I would look at this poster each time we would visit Joe and see something different each time, my dad died in 1978 and I would still see Joe come down to my Stepdad's car lot, Ray's Auto Sales to visit Ray and my mom Louise or buy a vehicle. I live just two blocks away from Joe's house and would wave at him several times a week when he would drive by on Moore Street. I always enjoyed talking with Joe and my mom always would ask about him, Joe gave me several years ago their Army Air Corp transfer papers dated 25 July 1945 and I kept it and will give a copy to his two sons, Bob and Bill, Rest in peace, Joe, from Larry Stephens and family.
