A Memorial Service for Daniel Dickerson Plank, 74, of Enid, will be 2:30 pm, Friday, January 15, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church of Enid with Rev. Devon Krause officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force. Burial will follow in Floral Haven Cemetery, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, at a later date. Cremation and services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Daniel was born June 9, 1946 in Reading, Pennsylvania to Jacob and Francis (Tice) Plank, and passed away, Sunday, December 27, 2020 in Enid.
He spent his grade school and junior high years in the Mt. Penn, Pennsylvania school district. He spent his high school years as a cadet at Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Virginia. Shortly after graduation, he attended a satellite campus of Penn State where he studied electrical engineering. In 1966, he joined the U.S. Air Force, and was sent to various military bases until he was honorably discharged in 1970. Dan met his wife, Sherryl Smart, while he was stationed at Elk City, Oklahoma and within the year, they moved to Merced, California where he was discharged. He returned to Reading, PA for about two years where he worked as an auto mechanic; then they moved to Enid, where he again found employment as an auto mechanic, something he loved and was good at. A daughter was born to Dan and his wife in 1982. For many years she played softball and Dan coached for the various teams she played on. He retired in 2015, and he and Sherryl celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2019.
Dan is survived by his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and four cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Francis Plank.
The First United Methodist Church requires that all attendees follow the following guidelines; masks are required inside the church at all times. Also, a family unit may sit next to each other during the service but friends will need to sit six feet apart.
Memorials may be made to Enid SPCA or Wounded Warriors with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
